Tizen Limitations

Last updated on September 30th, 2026

Yodeck for Tizen runs directly on supported Samsung displays with no extra hardware, but some features work differently than on the Yodeck Player (Raspberry Pi). Check your Tizen version first, then the limitations below.

Tizen version support

Tizen versionStatusNotes
Tizen 7 and earlier✅ Fully supportedAll features on this page work as described.
Tizen 8, 9 and later⚠️ Not officially supported yetWe’re working on support. Yodeck may run, but we can’t guarantee stable playback.

To check which displays are supported, see Samsung SSSP / Tizen supported devices. To update your display, see Update the firmware on your Samsung Tizen TV.

Content and playback

FeatureStatusWhat it means
4K playback❌ Not supportedContent plays at a maximum of 1080p, even on 4K Samsung displays.
Video between layouts⚠️ LimitedIf two consecutive layouts both contain video, the transition can glitch. The video usually keeps playing.
Gapless playback⚠️ LimitedTransitions may show a short gap in heavy layouts that combine video with many apps.
Layering with video⚠️ LimitedPlacing other items over or under a video in a layout may not display as designed.
Interactive Kiosk and interactivity apps⚠️ Not officially supportedIncludes Interactive Kiosk, Interactive Library and Interactive Playlist. They may work, but test before you deploy.
Apps that use script code❌ Not supportedSome apps won’t run. Check the App Compatibility Table for each app.
Custom scripts on web pages❌ Not supportedWeb pages display, but scripts added with the Web Scripting Engine don’t run.
YouTube live streams❌ Not supportedLive channel streams don’t play. Regular YouTube videos are not affected.
USB to HDMI video capture❌ Not supportedLive video input from a USB capture device can’t be shown.

💡 Using a lot of video? Keep video in one layout at a time, and avoid stacking other items on top of it. This gives the smoothest playback on Tizen.

Screen and device settings

FeatureStatusWhat it means
Screen orientation⚠️ Works differentlyYou can’t change orientation from Yodeck. Install the landscape or portrait version of the app instead. See below.
Turning the screen on and off⚠️ Works differentlyWhen a schedule turns the screen off, the display shows a black screen with the backlight off. The display stays powered on.
Screen resolution❌ Not supportedResolution and refresh rate can’t be changed from Yodeck.
Sound output selection❌ Not supportedYou can’t choose HDMI, analog, auto or muted from Yodeck. The display uses its own audio setting.
Network settings❌ Not supportedWiFi and Ethernet settings can’t be managed from Yodeck.
Security settings❌ Not supportedCustom certificates, SSH access and storage encryption aren’t available.

Landscape and portrait displays

Tizen doesn’t let apps rotate the screen, so Yodeck provides two versions of the app. Install the one that matches how the display is mounted:

  • Landscape (horizontal): yodeck-landscape.zip
  • Portrait (vertical): yodeck-portrait.zip

To switch orientation later, reinstall the other version. For installation steps, see Set up a Tizen player.

💡 Need to change network, resolution or sound? Set them in the Samsung display’s own settings menu. Yodeck uses whatever the display is configured with.
