Amazon FireOS Limitations

Last updated on September 30th, 2026

Yodeck runs on most Amazon FireOS devices, but some models aren’t supported and some features work differently than on the Yodeck Player (Raspberry Pi). Check both tables below before you buy or deploy Amazon devices.

Device compatibility

DeviceStatusNotes
Amazon Signage Stick✅ SupportedRecommended Amazon device. Includes Remote Device Management, so Yodeck can turn the TV on and off.
Fire TV Stick 4K (2nd Gen, 2023)⚠️ Supported with a limitationYodeck doesn’t open automatically when the device starts. You need to launch it manually after every restart.
Fire TV (3rd Gen, 2017)❌ Not supportedYodeck doesn’t run on this model.
Fire TV (1st Gen, 2014)❌ Not supportedYodeck doesn’t run on this model.
Devices running VegaOS❌ Not compatible yetIncludes some Amazon TVs and Fire TV Sticks, such as the Fire TV Stick 4K Select. VegaOS is Linux-based, not FireOS.

💡 Buying new devices? Check that the product listing says FireOS, not VegaOS. Newer Amazon models may ship with VegaOS even when they look identical to older ones.

Feature limitations

These apply to all supported FireOS devices unless noted.

FeatureStatusWhat it means
Turning the TV on and off (CEC)⚠️ Signage Stick onlyOn the Amazon Signage Stick, a schedule set to Turned Off puts the TV in standby. On other Fire TV devices, the screen goes black but the TV stays on.
Web pages in layouts⚠️ Works differentlyWeb pages always display on top of other content in the same region. See below.
YouTube and Vimeo live streams❌ Not supportedLive channel streams don’t play. Regular YouTube and Vimeo videos are not affected.
Interactive Kiosk and interactivity apps❌ Not supportedIncludes Interactive Kiosk, Interactive Library and Interactive Playlist.
USB to HDMI video capture❌ Not supportedLive video input from a USB capture device can’t be shown.
Sound output selection❌ Not supportedYou can’t choose HDMI, analog, auto or muted from Yodeck. The device uses its own audio setting.
Screen resolution❌ Not supportedResolution and refresh rate can’t be changed from Yodeck.
Time settings❌ Not supportedTime zone and NTP server can’t be set from Yodeck.
Network settings❌ Not supportedWiFi, Ethernet, 4G USB dongle and firewall settings can’t be managed from Yodeck.
Security settings❌ Not supportedCustom certificates, SSH access and storage encryption aren’t available.

💡 Need to change network, resolution, time or sound? Set them in the Fire TV’s own settings menu. Yodeck uses whatever the device is configured with.

Web pages in layouts

On FireOS, web pages always render on top of every other item in the same region, whatever layer order you set in the layout. You can’t place a web page behind or between other media.

If your design needs something to appear over a web page, such as a logo or a ticker, put it in a separate region that doesn’t overlap the web page.
