Overview

Celebrate key moments with your company! Birthdays, work anniversaries, and welcoming new employees are fantastic ways to engage and surprise your coworkers. Acknowledge their hard work and make their special days memorable with personalized messages displayed on screen for everyone to see. This visibility will enhance a sense of community and recognition within your company, making each moment even more special and memorable. Bamboo HR makes all of this possible with a few simple configuration steps in the app. Let’s get started!
Note
The Bamboo HR app is displayed in a playlist or a layout only if there are celebrations to showcase. When there are no celebrations, the app will be skipped.
⚠️If skipping on an RPi, there will be a white screen for a few seconds.
Creating a Bamboo HR App
To showcase content like birthdays, work anniversaries, and welcome messages for new employees from your company’s Bamboo HR on your Yodeck screens, follow these steps: Click on the Bamboo HR app in your app gallery to set it up. Then, complete the app details as instructed.
- Once the app’s pop-up window appears, click the Use App button.
- Now, you need to provide a name for the app, and you can include an optional description.
- The third field, Bamboo HR Domain, requires only the domain name you use to log in to Bamboo HR. For example, if the web address is this “https://companyName.bamboohr.com/” you only have to provide the ‘companyName‘ section of the web address to the app’s respective field.
- After you provide the Bamboo HR domain, the “Login with BambooHR” button becomes enabled. Clicking this button starts the app’s authentication process. Once you click the button, a pop-up window will appear where you can select or enter your credentials to log in to your Bamboo HR account and grant access to the application.
- From the Language drop-down menu, select your preferred language.
- Events: The events option lets you group and display events by day, week, or month.
- Depending on your choice in this option, specifically if you choose the Weekly or Monthly options, another dynamic field called Date Format* appears.
- Type: These check-box options relate to the Events (previous option) and allow you to choose the types of events you wish to showcase, such as Birthdays, Anniversaries, New Starters (welcoming), or combinations of these.
- Theme: This option allows you to select the main theme’s type based on your preference for either Playful or Elegant.
- Theme Style: This option allows you to choose whether the app’s central theme will be Light (white), Black, or Custom, essentially dictating the main color background.
- * Date format (dynamic visibility): Depending on the selected event options, this field dynamically displays three choices for date formatting: “MDY,” “DMY,” and “YMD.”
- Duration per celebration: This duration option (measured in seconds) indicates how long you will see each celebration.
- The total duration of the app in the playlist will be the sum of all individual celebration card durations for that specific day. If there are no celebrations, the system ignores the app.
- Orientation: With this drop-down menu, you can set the app’s orientation between Auto, Horizontal, or Vertical.
- Show Photo/Graphic: A toggle button that allows you to show or hide the image of the individuals being celebrated.
- Show Job Title: A toggle button to show or hide the job titles of the individuals being celebrated.
- Show Department: A toggle button to show or hide the departments of the individuals being celebrated.
- Show No Celebrations Message: A toggle button to display or hide the “No Celebrations” message when there are no celebrations to display on that day, for example. When you turn OFF this toggle, the app will disappear from playlists and layouts if there are no celebrations.
- Upload a logo (optional): You can upload a logo to display on the celebration cards. The requirements are the following:
- Requirements:
- JPG or PNG format.
- Maximum 1 MB in size.
- 800px x 300px (the final size will be % of the screen).
- Please note that vertical logos might look smaller.
- Requirements:
- Years Term: With this option, you can set the “Years” value to either the default or a custom word of your choice to suit your language and preferences.
- We use the term “Years” by default to refer to work anniversaries. This is the standard setting suitable for English-speaking users. For example, “2 years.”
- By selecting “Custom,” you can enter a custom term for “years” in the provided text input field. This is useful for international teams. For example, an Italian user can enter “Anni,” a Greek user can enter “χρόνια,” or a German user can enter “Jahre.”
- Tags: You can also provide a tag for this app to manage it better.
- You can also set the Availability. You can find more details in the Media Availability guide.
- Click “Save,” and your app is ready to use.

F.A.Q.s
Got questions? We’ve got answers! This section addresses common questions about the Bamboo HR app.
Yes, these are different apps; however, they behave similarly. The only thing that changes is how they acquire the data they display.
They automatically appear under the “Welcome New Hire” announcements (based on your settings).
Yes. The BambooHR app (as well as the Team Celebrations app) works as a standalone app and inside layouts.
You can use profile photos from BambooHR for celebrations, if available.
The Yodeck app draws birthdays, work anniversaries, and related data automatically from your BambooHR account. However, this only works once your BambooHR domain administrator grants the necessary permissions to the Yodeck app. Without these rights, the app has no data to display and will show nothing or a “no data available” message in the preview, even if matching dates exist. Ask your BambooHR admin to approve the connection in BambooHR’s integration/API settings. After permissions are granted, refresh or reconnect the integration in Yodeck, and the events should appear automatically.
– Only Yodeck’s built-in text is translated. This includes: labels, headings, and any text generated directly by the Yodeck app.
– Content coming from external platforms or APIs is not translated by Yodeck. This includes:
Data retrieved from external services (e.g., quotes, calendar events), posts or media from social platforms, text or metadata supplied by the API source, and system messages generated by external platforms.
